Torres Announces Funding for Fair Housing in Inland Empire

Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) today announced a $20,000 grant provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for Ontario's Inland Fair Housing and Mediation Board (IFHMB).

The grant, which is part of HUD's COVID-19 Fair Housing Initiatives Program, is funded by the Coronavirus Aid, Resources and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

The IFHMB provides fair housing education, outreach and enforcement activities throughout San Bernardino County. IFHMB will use these funds to create a fair housing training curriculum about novel fair housing issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic with an emphasis on disability, national origin, and race discrimination. IFHMB will also deliver virtual trainings about COVID-19-related fair housing issues to member of all federally protected categories, and to housing providers, and others.

Rep. Torres released the following statement:

"Fair housing support is more important than ever in the midst of this pandemic," Rep. Torres said. "Thanks to the grant I'm announcing today, the Inland Fair Housing and Mediation Board will be able to deliver key housing rights information to Inland Empire residents through the safety of online trainings. This support could make the difference for people in our community struggling to keep a roof overhead. At a time when the security of a home can truly be lifesaving, IFHMB's work is vital, and this well-deserved award proves it."

Rep. Torres sits on the powerful House Appropriations Committee. To date, she has announced more than $232 million in coronavirus-related funds for the Inland Empire.
